Taxes and Chapter 7 Bankruptcy

Income taxes are generally dischargeable in a chapter 7 or chapter 13 bankruptcy if they are more than three years old (as determined by the April 15 date they were due).  If the return was not filed at all, then taxes from that year will not be dischargeable.  There are many subtle issues on tax dischargeability so discussion with an attorney is vital.
